Hello! And welcome to the 32nd post of Pizza Rat's Paradise.
Recipe:
These are what I used to make this recipe, but one can tweak it to one's own taste and preferences, trying out different flavors, herbs, spices.
Ingredients:
1 Satchet of Mom's Story Soup Stock
I found this ingenious product at H Mart -- what I loved most was that it used dried natural ingredients which give Korean soups the natural MSG flavor. Growing up, I would have to make soups with these natural ingredients, but it was such a nuisance fishing out dried anchovy one by one and kelp pieces at the end -- this satchet makes it easy to fish out once the entire soup is finished -- easy to throw away as well!
Chopped Fish Cake / Odeng
The fried fish cake (a traditional Korean street snack favorite) also imparts natural umami flavor into the broth. There are fish cakes from all sorts of other cultures as well, one can choose whichever one to one's liking. I personally was preferring the thin rectangular sheets as they have a lot of surface area and soak up the broth extremely well.
Roasted Seaweed
These large sheets are not the salted snack kind -- I think I just added them in because I felt like it. It's not really traditional.
1 tiny spoon of gochujang
A few teaspoons of gochugaru
Water (enough to cover everything)
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a saucepot - bring to a boil, then simmer on low for however long you want.
Season to taste as you prefer.
Serve in a cozy cup / vessel -- the spice (capsaicin) I find, helps counteract a sore throat, helps open up a constricted throat and helps move fluids along.
If you have made it this far, thank you for reading! 💚
