Recipe:
I've made a lot of tteokbokki (and variations of) in my lifetime, but I just created a new one that is EXTREMELY tasty and easy to make, using only 4 ingredients! I was shocked at how well it came out. This can be used as a base for amazing tteokbokki - people typically like to add glass noodles, ramen noodles, fish cake, boiled egg, green onion, meat, and other kinds of toppings to their heart's content. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
1/2 a packet of Tteok (price sticker came out to be $6.99)
I used what was available - and I rather like this kind of tteok - it's made by a tteok specialty place in Santa Clara, CA; it's some of the best tteok I've ever eaten in my life, and for a reasonable price too! https://www.kungsilricebakery.com/
~2 Tbsp of Galbi Sauce
I used this brand: Wang Korea's Korean B.B.Q. Galbi Sauce
1-2 Tbsp of Gochujang
I used a brand pretty much similar to this: Amazon.com : Chung Jung One Sunchang Gochujang 500 Gram Mild Spice : Grocery & Gourmet Food
1-2 cups of water
Directions:
Use the highest-quality possible pan you've got (I used a trusty Marco Pierre stainless steel pot), and add your tteok in. (If defrosting, one can use the defrost setting on the microwave, let it sit in the fridge, or let tteok rest in a bowl with water out.)
Add water, gochujang, and galbi sauce - mix together, let bring to a boil, then simmer, until consistency of the sauce becomes thickened to a desired consistency from the rice starch.
Do a taste test and add any ingredients according to your preference.
