What's that Smell? *sniff*

Updated: Oct 20

Hello! And welcome to the 35th post of Pizza Rat's Paradise.

Recipe:

Unexpectedly made this SCRUMPTIOUS sauteed broccoli slaw recipe -- improvised, but tastes heavenly. Still shook at how simple it is, and I tried recreating it and adding/subtracting a couple of flavors, and it completely RUINED the recipe. So here it is, in all its glory:

Ingredients:

  • Oil

  • Sriracha

  • Dried Italian Seasoning (this is the must!)

  • Shredded Broccoli (Broccoli Slaw) -- it has to be this form of broccoli, as the thin shredded bits give it the right texture/mouthfeel for the stir-fry, and is more delicate than whole broccoli stems

Directions:

  1. Add in oil in a pan

  2. Add in your raw broccoli slaw

  3. Squirt in some Sriracha, enough to just suggest a hint of spice and Sriracha flavor, but not enough to overpower.

  4. A few shakes of Italian Seasoning (this is the magical ingredient, I found, for whatever reason, it COMPLETELY elevates the dish)

  5. Stir-fry for about 2 minutes or until just cooked off the raw-ness of broccoli, but it still has bite.

  6. Garnish with chopped cilantro.

  7. Serve over Thai Jasmine Rice.

I just had the sauteed slaw all on its own, but it would go amazing over jasmine rice

I think it would be a great hit with vegetarians/vegans.

For possible sides: General Tso Deep-Fried Tofu with peanuts and chilis, Thai Green Curry. Maybe some lamb/chicken/veal meatballs for the meat-eaters.

Perhaps the most similar thing I've had in terms of texture was Thai Green Papaya Salad. Maybe that's why I love it so much.

Edit:

I tried a different version with dried roasted red bell pepper and giant pepper bits after the slaw had dehydrated a bit, and it added a different depth of flavor, which was quite lovely as well.

If you have made it this far, thank you for reading! 💚
