Lady Mary Wortley Montagu (English), was an aristocrat who popularized inoculation amongst her social class at the time.

She travelled to Turkey, observed women pricking smallpox boils in houses there which transferred immunity to a person. She brought back this custom to the English court. Her contribution is significant, because this is before the time of Edward Jenner, who is often credited for inventing the vaccine.

William Cullen, Scottish physician, decorated with many acronyms, was a professor, chemist, and botanist. His teachings and practice were quite influential in his social circle.

Dr. Louis Wade Sullivan, MD

1933 - Present

Dr. Louis W. Sullivan, former Secretary of the United States Department of Health and Human Services during the George W. Bush administration, founding Dean of Morehouse School of Medicine, former Professor of Medicine in the Boston area, helped to advocate for some of the first Black Americans/African-American students to be accepted into medical school in the Boston area, among numerous other accomplishments in his lifetime.

Dr. Mehmet Oz, MD MBA

1960 - Present

Dr. Oz was a former cardiothoracic surgeon who holds many patents in medical devices including the LVAD before he turned to become a TV personality to publicize lifestyle products. He cites years of operating on patients on preventable disease and being influenced by his family (Turkish immigrant parents, Reiki healer wife) on natural remedies/mysticism as main motivators. Although controversy has followed his career path, there is no denying that he has made an impact on society.

Dr. Shawn Baker, MD

1967 - Present

Dr. Baker shares his career trajectory as an orthopedic surgeon/physician, author of The Carnivore Diet. He noted over time, after he decided to change his own lifestyle, when he prescribed a diet change in his patients with conditions such as arthritis, tendonitis, fragility fractures, tissue trauma, they got much better. He transitioned to change his high-volume, high-profit practice towards more lifestyle coaching. This is a chapter in his story in his own words.

Present 

Dr. Pugh is a general surgeon who was awarded the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) during the Obama administration, and elected to the National Academy of Medicine in 2021 for her innovations to medical research and surgical education.

In this 2013 talk at Google, Dr. Lissa Rankin shares her experience as a physician (and daughter of a physician) seeing how patients across different income levels couldn't holistically heal solely from her medical, evidence-based perspective. She then started asking her patients: "What does your body need in order to heal?"
