Lady Mary Wortley Montagu (English), was an aristocrat who popularized inoculation amongst her social class at the time.
She travelled to Turkey, observed women pricking smallpox boils in houses there which transferred immunity to a person. She brought back this custom to the English court. Her contribution is significant, because this is before the time of Edward Jenner, who is often credited for inventing the vaccine.

Dr. Louis W. Sullivan, former Secretary of the United States Department of Health and Human Services during the George W. Bush administration, founding Dean of Morehouse School of Medicine, former Professor of Medicine in the Boston area, helped to advocate for some of the first Black Americans/African-American students to be accepted into medical school in the Boston area, among numerous other accomplishments in his lifetime.

Although controversy has followed his career path, there is no denying that he has made an impact on society.
